How Can I Become A Home Inspector And How Much Will I Make?In order to become a home inspector, you need to get some education so that you can be certified. Being certified by the NAHI (National Association of Home Inspectors) you need to pass the CRI (Certified Real Estate Inspector) exam. Going to some classes in which you can study heating, air conditioning, plumbing, insulation, etc., will help a great deal with the exam. You also need to complete 250 paid inspections in order to be certified. So it wouldn't be a bad idea to find another home inspector and become his apprentice. Then you would be able to accomplish this task. What your home inspector salary will be depends on which industry you work for. If you work for the federal government, then you will make around $40,000 annually. If you worked for the state you would make a lower wage, around $34,000 annually. If you worked for an architectural or engineering firm you would make higher wages, around $49,000 annually. The average wages nationally for a home inspector salary would be around $50,000 annually. The lowest 10% would be around $31,000. The middle range average would be around $34,000. So this is what your average wages for the home inspector salary would be. It just depends on which agency you would like to work for. If you would like to find career advancement, you need to have a membership in home inspection associations or (ASHI) American Society of Home Inspectors. Or you would need to join NAHI National Association of Home Inspectors. By taking the CRI exam, as mentioned above, and completing the 250 paid inspections, you would be a member of these associations and would make better pay. The trick is finding a home inspector who would accept an apprentice, so you can start accumulating the 250 paid inspections. If you can find an inspector who will take you on and teach you the tricks of the trade, you'll be on your way to accomplishing the necessities of certification and work experience. And of course, once you do become certified, it will be your turn someday to also take in an ambitious young student yourself as a apprentice. |
