There's a new career becoming quite popular these days. It's being a HLE Officer. HLE is an acronym for Humane Law Enforcement. This is an officer that helps animals that have been mistreated or abused. Students who go for this career should have a great concern about animal welfare and be extremely driven. You also need to get some education in this field. There are different ways of getting this kind of curriculum. You could check out humane law enforcement schooling. You could also go to a community college and get your degree in Criminal Justice and go to the police academy and become a police officer. Then after getting your experience as a police officer, you could get additional training to become a HLE Officer.

One such school to get your specialized training is the Law Enforcement Training Institute, University of Missouri. You would take 3 levels of courses. Each class is five days in length and is 40 hours long. You will have teachers who have worked in the law enforcement field and veterinary sciences. After you complete the 3 levels of courses, you are certified as a Humane Investigator.

If you live in New York, you can work for the ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement Division. In order to do this, you must reside in New York and be eligible for certification as a New York State Peace Officer.

If you live outside New York, you need to check online for local animal organizations animal control offices to see if they have a humane law enforcement program. You can find humane law enforcement schooling all over the United States. Some of the faculty members teach at different colleges and offer the first level, then go back to their school to teach the next two levels. If you don't mind traveling to a university in another state for the complete program, it would be an interesting major.

Could you imagine being a police officer and also becoming a HLE Officer and making sure the K-9 dogs are treated humanely while being trained as well as the horses who become partners with the police officers?
